Phylodynamics seeks to estimate effective population size fluctuations from molecular sequences of individuals sampled from a population of interest. One way to accomplish this task formulates an observed sequence data likelihood exploiting a coalescent model for the sampled individuals' genealogy and then integrating over all possible genealogies via Monte Carlo or, less efficiently, by conditioning on one genealogy estimated from the sequence data. However, when analyzing sequences sampled...

This book was created by the Porter County Assessor’s office in 1862 in order to track real property and determine taxes owed. In this book, names were arranged in alphabetic order, by the first letter of the last name. You will find the owner of the property, town, legal description, number of lots owned, value of and taxable property, improvements made, and possibly listed personal property.
Topics: 1862, Assessor’s Office, Porter County, Indiana, local history, genealogy, taxes, property, legal...

This ledger appears to be a register of loans granted between the years 1838 - 1860. We cross-referenced the names listed for loans, and found that these same people sold their land several days later. We can only speculate that these loans helped owners sell their property or land with a clear title. In early days of Indiana, there were no banks northwest of the Ohio River.   The first two banks of Indiana were Bank of Madison and the Bank of Vincennes, both starting before state hood.  ...

We identify a new natural coalescent structure, which we call the seed-bank coalescent, that describes the gene genealogy of populations under the influence of a strong seed-bank effect, where "dormant forms" of individuals (such as seeds or spores) may jump a significant number of generations before joining the "active" population. Mathematically, our seed-bank coalescent appears as scaling limit in a Wright-Fisher model with geometric seed-bank age structure if the average...

The spatial Lambda-Fleming-Viot (SLFV) process (Barton, Etheridge and V\'eber, 2010) can be seen as a generalised Voter Model with configuration space $M^{R^d}$, where M is the set of probability measures on some space K. Such processes are usually studied thanks to a dual process that describes the genealogy of a sample of particles. In this paper, we study the growth of a cluster, and our surprising result is that with probability one, every bounded cluster stops growing in finite time....
